Pasture Posts #24: A photo tour!

pasture posts

Here’s the weekly roundup from Watson Farms and your direct connection to your farmer. Enjoy the latest edition of Pasture Posts where we show you what we were up to this week with tons of photos!

fallen tree from wind storm

We had a minor wind storm the other day that was too much for a branch of this cedar tree which blocked the drive when it fell.  Thankfully Abby and Noah were there to help!

fallen tree removed from driveway

Everybody pitched in and we were done in about a half hour.  Thankfully that was the worst of the damage.

Matt and Noah mowing pasture

Each summer we use the bush hog to control the less desirable weeds and tree saplings that come up. Noah joined in until he got too sleepy. ????

new feeder calves

We received 21 new feeder calves this week.  Here is a few of them in the paddock where we train them to electric fence and watch them for a day or two until we turn them out with the rest of the herd.  They will stay with us for over a year until they reach the perfect finish while eating an all-grass diet the entire time.

pastured egg layer chickens

The layer chickens are doing well on the crabgrass that is so plentiful right now because of timely rains. They have more grass than they can eat!

pastured egg layer chickens at night

Here they are last night with the cow herd grazing around them.

grass fed cattle in a paddock

Here’s the cow herd this morning. They just have a few hours left in this paddock before their daily move.

Great Pyrenees puppies

Another new addition this week is these two guard dog puppies, Bingo (left) and Duke.

meat delivery truck with customer orders of grass fed beef, pastured pork, and pastured chicken

We got back 5 full pallets of pork and beef from the processor this week. We were able to fulfill a good number of bulk orders which customers were waiting patiently for, and here’s a couple of them being taken down to the customer pickup freezer on Saturday. Our waiting list is shorter than it has been in about a year and a half, so if you know of anyone that is interested in purchasing in bulk, now is a good time to get on the list!

Upcoming Tour

There’s a lot more that we can show you in person!  Take advantage of the tour day set for Saturday, August 28 at 10am.

Make plans now to bring the family!  The hayride will be covered with a tarp to provide some shade as we take a ride through the pastures. Slots are limited so go ahead and reserve your spot!  Kids 5 and under are free.  Herd Members and their immediate family also receive one free tour per year!

Product Spotlight

A popular beef bundle that we now have in stock has been our Family Bundle which includes the following:

  • 2 Rib Eye Steaks (1 Pack)
  • 2 NY Strip Steaks (1 Pack)
  • 2 Filet Mignon Steaks (1 Pack)
  • 1 Sirloin Steak
  • 1 Sirloin Tip Roast
  • 2 Chuck Roasts
  • 1 Pack of Ribs
  • 3 Packs of Stew Meat
  • 12 Packs of Ground Beef

We re-use packaging!

You can help us reduce our carbon footprint by returning your CLEAN egg cartons and meat boxes.

The main reason that we switched to plastic egg cartons a while back was because they are so much more durable than paper which could only be used once.  They also protect the eggs much better!

So if you have some egg cartons or boxes to return, you can just place them on your porch on your home delivery day.  Farm pickup customers can, of course, drop them off when you come to pick up your new order.

Thanks for helping us re-use our packaging!
