So in an effort to streamline this process we have made it easier to tell others (via email, Facebook, or Twitter) about Watson Farms. And it’s all automated on the backend, so you don’t have to rely on us to issue the store credits manually. Just head over to our Referrals Page and start sharing!

“I ordered several different cuts of beef from them. They were all excellent. Delivery went smoothly. Everything was packaged well and cleanly. I’ll definitely be a regular customer and look forward to trying their other products like ham. It’s nice to be able to buy from a local, family farm.”

We would greatly appreciate it if you would be kind enough to leave us a review.  It helps first-time customers purchase with confidence.

We want to wish all the fathers out there a Happy Father’s Day! Thanks for the impact you have on the next generation.

Microbe-friendly Farms

Last week we briefly discussed how on our farm, we can literally stand in the middle of thousands of chickens and smell next to nothing. This is due to the mobility of all of our animals which keeps grass under them instead of manure like in the industry. This is one aspect of a regenerative farm that is inviting rather than repulsing.

This week, let’s look at another characteristic of regenerative livestock farms that make them attractive, and that is the tendency toward life rather than death. When you look at modern industrial agriculture, you see monocrops and the use of lots of “cides” (herbicides, insecticides, pesticides). Although the one thing that a particular farmer is producing may often look good and healthy, the fact is that they likely killed everything around it to achieve this.

Crop farmers rely on herbicides like glyphosate and paraquat to burn down a field and rid it of any other living vegetation before planting the desired crop.

Industrial poultry farmers use a plethora of insecticides and various other chemicals such as creosote and formaldehyde in an effort to sterilize the barns to create an environment that the severely-immune-deficient birds can survive in.

Ag+Art Tour is Coming!

We wanted to make sure you knew about an upcoming opportunity to tour Watson Farms! We’ve participated in the Ag+Art Tour for a number of years now and it has been successful each time. We love the opportunity to offer a level of transparency that is rare in agriculture today, and we love having the various discussions with you as we travel across the farm seeing various groups of livestock.

Isn’t it interesting that regenerative farms often welcome transparency while industrial farms despise it? The fact that we can stand amongst our pigs or chickens or cows and barely smell anything is a big reason why we enjoy showing our farm to people. Compare that to the fact that many people don’t even want to be within a mile of a factory farm due to the stench. Of course, this is fine with the contract growers as their integrators make them sign contracts that preclude the general public from being allowed on these industrial farms anyway. We believe that when animals are raised correctly, the result is farm that is aesthetically and aromatically pleasing. In other words farms should be people-friendly.

So please make plans to come to Watson Farms on Saturday, June 24 from 10am to 4pm as part of the Ag+Art Tour! We will have vendors, a food truck, and hay rides around the farm. We also encourage you to tour other farms in various counties around South Carolina. Head over to their site for more details!

Stay tuned for more details coming next week!

Farm Photos of the Week

The cattle herd has done a wonderful job preparing the pasture for these young broilers who were turned out to pasture this week. They do better when the grass is short and the cows know exactly what to do when the grass is tall – EAT! The result of mob grazing followed by broiler groups over time has been a plethora of volunteer white clover in this particular field which is excellent forage for any of our animals and the bees love it too!

More Partners = More Products – Pasture Posts #119

Here’s the weekly roundup from Watson Farms and your direct connection to your farmer. Enjoy the latest edition of Pasture Posts!

In the past few months, we have added a large number of products made by local producers to our offering! We wanted to take a moment to highlight them today and to discuss why we work hard to form partnerships with these local family businesses.

One thing that continually humbles us each week when we see the orders coming through is the fact that you have bypassed traditional marketplaces in favor of shopping from a local family farm.

One reason that these partnerships are valuable is because it’s a win for everyone involved: the producer, the retailer, and you, the consumer!

When we offer these items, a whole new pool of customers now have access to a product they might not have otherwise found out about. And with our customers being some of the most informed people out there, these producers are very thankful to have you all as potential customers. We are grateful to be able to, with your help, assist these producers in finding more customers.

Partnering with like-minded producers – Pasture Posts #118

We hope everyone has a great Memorial Day tomorrow as we honor those who gave all for our country.

Here’s the weekly roundup from Watson Farms and your direct connection to your farmer. Enjoy the latest edition of Pasture Posts!

For several years now, we have had to partially rely on other producers to help us keep our freezer shelves stocked thanks to the astonishing growth our farm has experienced from more and more customers like yourself who have joined our land-healing ministry over the last few years. But before we partner with any other producer, we are very careful to properly examine the producer to ensure that they abide by the same protocols that you have come to expect from Watson Farms.

We know that our farm is fortunate to be one that hundreds of families across the Carolinas and beyond look to when it comes to sourcing 100% grass-fed beef. We know that they also expect our products to meet a number of other standards like:

Everything eats a chicken.  And when you have 6000 chickens on a farm you have to find an efficient way to protect them from a myriad of predators such as raccoons, opossums, coyotes, cats, stray dogs, hawks, eagles, and more.  Our livestock guard dogs have proved to be valuable members of the Watson Farms team over the years in this regard.
